Employees at a local business have rallied together to raise over £26,000 for Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity by taking on multiple fundraising challenges, over the course of a year, to help the families affected by baby loss.

The charity was nominated by the community committee at AFH Wealth Management. They were inspired to support the Women’s Hospital, as one of their colleagues Lucy Somner, and her sister Emily, had previously fundraised for it, in memory of their sister Amy, who was a well-loved neonatal nurse at the hospital when she tragically passed in 2017.

The kind-hearted colleagues were passionate about supporting the pioneering workplace and worked together to raise a staggering amount of money which will fund equipment for a new project at the Women’s Hospital called the Rainbow Clinic, which will benefit women and families who have experienced baby loss.

Seeing how the hospital cares for and supports families experiencing such heartache really motivated the business to raise as much money as possible.

Colleagues took to multiple fundraising activities including bake sales, raffles, family fun days and one dare devil employee even took on a wing walk. Some took to fitness challenges like marathons and others took on a game-a-thon, playing board games for an entire weekend.

The business challenged employees to raise £12,000, with the promise that if they did, they would match the amount. The team didn’t need much more motivating than that. The sense of community drove them all to make a difference. Together they managed to beat their target, raising a whopping £14,000. As promised, the business added £12,000 to the pot, taking the total to an incredible £26,000

Lucy Somner, marketing and communications executive at AFH Wealth Management, said: “We are so proud to have come together as a team and make a difference to all the women, babies and families the hospital services. We are amazed to see how our fundraising will affect the hospital and the care it provides.”

Anna Pendlebury, senior regional fundraiser at Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity, added:We’re so thankful to Lucy and AFH Wealth Management for supporting us with their fundraising efforts. Every penny raised will make an enormous difference to so many deserving families in their time of need, helping change their experience at our hospital. We’re so grateful to have been selected as their Charity of the Year and for the team to have pulled together to deliver such an inspirational result that has helped us improve our hospital for future families experiencing the devastating heartache of baby loss.”
