30 seconds with: Sue Avery, Director of our Fertility Centre, took some time out of her busy day to tell us more about her role.

What is your role?

I oversee the running of the Fertility Centre, consult our embryologists and ensure we meet all of the laws and regulations surrounding fertility. We help to facilitate reproduction and help couples and individuals of all types on their fertility journeys. Typical treatments and services we offer include assisted conception, such as IVF, and working with pre-implantation embryos as well as preserving eggs and sperm.

What is the best part of your job?

Aside from helping people on their journey to parenthood, one of the things I love most about my job is coming in every morning to the brilliant team I work with. We’re a team of around 43, so there’s always plenty to get involved with!

Why do you think people should support Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity?

We have all the facilities under one roof to ensure that a woman is cared for throughout every single stage of her pregnancy. We also offer genetics, gynaecology and neonatal care for women and men. Having this resource is incredibly precious and poses a huge advantage to both our staff and patients, but the reality is it really needs support. Whether you can donate, buy a pin badge or run a marathon, you will be helping us to offer the best possible care to our women, babies and families and that really is something special.
