Our hospital’s charity is here to help children like Tristan and families like Amanda’s. 10-year-old Tristan was born four and a half months early, with a cleft lip and palate. After arriving at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, the family were transferred to our Women's Hospital where Tristan was put in an incubator to be ventilated. He needed support breathing for the first few weeks of his life. Mum, Amanda, said: “I completed the first aid resuscitation training twice and then went through it with a nurse before we left as knew I would have to use it once home. We’d been home four days when Tristan stopped breathing; I put my training to use and managed to resuscitate him before the ambulance arrived”. For the first four years of his life, Tristan was in and out of hospital with acute bronchiolitis and chest problems. As he has grown he has gone from strength to strength and has had many operations for his cleft. Last month, Tristan entered double digits and is now 10 years old. Amanda added: “To this day, we are so incredibly thankful to all the staff at the Women's Hospital who helped our family”.
